How to Toast Nuts

ConAgra Foods® Executive Sous Chef Liz Olson shows how to toast nuts. To pan toast them, use a skillet or shallow pan. No oil is needed. Stir the nuts until they turn light golden. You also can use a shallow roasting pan or sheet and toast them in the oven at 350 degrees for five minutes, or until the color changes. Stir every few minutes. Cool and store in an airtight container in your freezer until you need them in a recipe.

Ingredients


1/4 cup virgin olive oil
1 large red bell pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced (4 cloves = about 4 teaspoons)
1 can (14.5 oz each) Hunt's® Petite Diced Tomatoes, drained
1/2 cup thinly sliced fresh basil leaves (1/2 cup = 2/3 oz)
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1/2 cup slivered almonds, toasted
